Streamlined Scholarships for 2024: Family Empowerment Program for Students with Unique Abilities
Important Update on Florida Private School Scholarships for 2024
As part of Florida’s ongoing commitment to providing educational options for students with unique abilities, recent legislation has streamlined the state’s scholarship programs. Effective since July 1, 2021, the Gardiner Scholarship and McKay Scholarship programs have been consolidated into the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA). This transition has occurred in two phases:
- 2021-2022 School Year: Students who benefited from the Gardiner Scholarship in the 2020-2021 school year were transitioned to the FES-UA program.
- 2022-2023 School Year: Students previously receiving the McKay Scholarship for private school attendance were required to transition to the FES-UA program.
What This Means for 2024
For the 2024 school year, all students who qualify under the former McKay or Gardiner Scholarships are now fully integrated into the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA). This program continues to provide vital support for students with disabilities, ensuring they have access to the educational opportunities that meet their needs.
Step Up For Students remains dedicated to making this process as easy as possible for families. If your child received the McKay Scholarship in the past, rest assured that their funding will continue under the FES-UA program, provided they remain eligible.
We encourage all families to visit the Step Up For Students website to stay informed about application deadlines, eligibility requirements, and the latest updates for the 2024 school year.
How to Stay Eligible for 2024
- Ensure that your child’s eligibility for the FES-UA program is up to date.
- For new applicants, review the guidelines for the Family Empowerment Scholarship to understand the application process.
For more information and assistance with the transition, visit the official Step Up For Students website or contact their support team for personalized guidance.
